Every once in a while I get an outfit, or vision for one, stuck in my head. Only problem being, what's in my head isn't something I saw in a magazine, in a store, or on a model of any sort. When this happens, the search is on...

a girl can dream: [striped & bold]
When warm weather abounds it is hard not to feel happy. I spend more time outdoors. I go for long walks, eat as many meals outside as possible, and head to the beach whenever I can. The warm weather usually brings with it fun gatherings as well. This time of year there is usually baby showers, weddings, BBQs, and Memorial Day parties. Being out and about and having fun makes me want to wear a pop of color with every outfit.
This bright teal clutch from Madewell is amazing and I was happy to find it and share it here. Even better, it's now on sale! Don't you just love when that happens. I love its color and the contrast of the teal with the camel colored leather. It even has striped lining.
There is not one single thing I don't love about this striped silk cami from J. Crew. The stripes are a perfect color for all summer. Memorial Day, 4th of July, when wouldn't it be perfection?!?!? The bow around the collar is really what did it for me.

Every once in a while you feel like you need a few things to give your wardrobe, and life, a little update and excitement. I've found some great things lately that I couldn't resist sharing with you.
1] I LOVE this new sweater that I found at Madewell. I've loved them always and was happy to stumble into their store on State Street on our recent trip to San Francisco. This sweater is lightweight and has a loose knit that allows you to layer it over a colored tank perfectly. I am excited to wear it over my bathing suit in the coming season.
2] This grey feather necklace was a SCORE from Forever 21 for an easy $8.80. It falls perfectly over a plain T and looks great when paired with skinny jeans and flats.
3] Votivo brand has long been a favorite of mine. Their Red Currant....amazing! Their packaging is a major plus as well. For the spring and summer I love this honeysuckle candle. It smells just like a warm summer night.
4] I was so happy to find this gold bangle in the color of the season. This mint green is amazing. I love the geometric shape too. Anthropologie rarely does me wrong.
5] These wedges were a major find. They are everything a wedge should be...a little cork, a little rope, a little leather and a little canvas...coral colored canvas none-the-less. They are very comfortable and very practical all in the same.
6] Peach spring nails...yes please. There aren't many colors that Essie makes that I don't like. They've done it again with this one. I love pastel nails for the spring and this color is just too fun.
7] Lastly, I wish I learned earlier (and by earlier I mean younger) that a hat is my best friend when it comes to sunshine. I love the warmth of basking in the sun but need a hat by my side, and on my head. This one is a great addition to my growing collection. The little threads of sparkle woven into it are gorgeous.
Now go out and find a little something that you love to brighten up your life!
lauren moffatt...yes please.
If there is a designer whose entire look book I would wear it would definitely be Lauren Moffatt's spring collection. From the white feminine dresses to the brightly structured and colored patterns and the bathing suits...oh the bathing suits. Please and yes please!

warmth and relaxation welcomed
While the majority of my clients have been away for Spring Break, some had their break last week, and some don't have it until next week. That means that even though work is slow, I'm still not free to run off on a little vacation. [I'd LOVE to be somewhere warm...with warm ocean water!] That said, I think I can still come up with a little vacation in my own town, a "staycation" as they call it. Tomorrow my sister and I are sold on making it happen. With a day of lounging ahead, I am loving the thought of adorning with these goodies.

1] a bright bathing suit: There isn't anything about this suit not to love. The color is a perfect mix of neon green with a little pastel feeling. A suit that has a top cut like this, without straps, allows you not to have to worry about your tan lines differing from day to day. Plus, those ruffles...so cute and yet sexy instead of juvenile. It can be found at h&m for a mere $29 for the whole thing!
2] a comfortable fit sweater: Although the sun is beginning to creep into our lives more and more [yipeee!], it is still COLD in the shade. Unfortunately this sweater, by Vince, is not available online anymore but a similar one, bold stripes and great colors, is available at J. Crew.
3] a watch to keep it all together: There isn't many a Michael Kors watch that I don't love! And, in my opinion a watch is a piece that should look good and feel good on.
4] a catch ALL bag: For a day out of the house and about town, being able to transition from brunch, to shopping, to something relaxing [read massage or manicure/pedicure or both], to basking in the sun you need a bag that can carry it all. This drawstring bag from Zara is a great size with perfect style flair. I really love the rope that they used for the closure.
5] a marathon shoe: A comfortable pair of shoes is a must when you know you'll be in them for the duration of a day. I love this pair of leather gladiators by Steve Madden. The best part is they have a mini heel so they aren't completely flat.
6] jean shorts: I know they aren't for every one but this California girl loves her jean shorts. They go a long way for spring and summer wear. You need a good pair too! Like these from Levis, these from Big Star Remy, these from J. Crew, or these from Forever 21.
how-to [cold weather] clothe
We are in Chicago for a couple of days and we are loving the quick jet set to the east but it is cold here!
We are staying at this, our favorite, hotel.
There isn't really anything that we don't love about a W. It's our go-to hotel in any city we're in.
When I was packing for our fast few days away I couldn't wrap my head around how to pack for it being much colder than I am used to. I didn't want to stay tucked away in the warm hotel (though it was VERY tempting) and wanted to get out and about since I didn't have much time here. What is hard about the cold weather is going from the freezing outside air to the warm inside. The layers must go on and come off very easily. My solution is below. Layer in steps:
What do you think?!?! Makes it a bit easier and less daunting huh? I am sure that the majority of you are thinking, seriously, I live this, I know how to dress for it. But the girls like me...not so much. So, here's to hoping that this helps those of you like me figure out how to dress in the cold out there.

a girl can dream: [warmth & ease]
Today I feel like I just want to crawl right back into bed and sleep until another day is here. I know that I need to get and up and get going. Get enjoying that life that was allowed to me by the amazing people (like my grandma) who were before me. Today will be my first day back to a partial day of work and I'm totally dreading it. Not dreading the kids, just dreading having to be a normal, functioning human again. Monday night when I got home from what felt like the longest day ever, I smelled gas. We had a gas leak and I had to stay awake until 2:00am when the Gas Company got here so we didn't have to worry about what would happen while we slept. Yesterday was pretty much completely crappy all together and ended in a wind storm and power outages. So, I woke up to a super windy day today, I'm thinking it's finally cooling off.
Our cooling off is nothing compared to most of the states...I know, I know. So, I am slowly finding my way into warmer clothes. The problem is that usually when it gets cold I am tempted to just run around in all things cozy. Unfortunately cozy doesn't always mean cute. How perfect are these two solutions?!?! These Sorel boots (now on sale!) are legit when it comes to warmth. I ordered mine and was so stoked when they arrived. They are fully lined in fluff, waterproof for rain or snow, plus...that houndstooth with bright blue laces (they come with black too)...AMAZING! I also love this Free People poncho (also here). I am loving the loose fitting sweater and ponchos that are every where this fall. This is a perfect pull over for the days that find themselves bordering cool. You can where a standard long sleeve or light sweater and then layer this on top for added warmth. Plus if you need a little extra coziness you can wrap and tuck your cashmere scarf right into that neckline.
Here's to today being a better day, or at least being cozy in it.

I'm launching a new little feature called "a girl can dream." The things that I love are usually two things: unique and/or practical. I love things are that that are unique because they are either vintage or handmade. I also like practical things that won't break the bank, are comfortable and make sense for my lifestyle with still looking like me. These two pieces are both of those things. This gorgeous jacket by EmersonMade is practical in that it is a basic black. It could be worn over just about anything. With blue jeans and a white tee or over a classy dress. These amazing Lulu Frost rings I've had my eye on for a while. I love how unique they are and that you can choose the perfect combo to mean something to you. They are a bit pricey but I love that I could have one 5, I am Chanel No. 5 after all, or a stack of our anniversary date. Wouldn't you love both of these?
FALL: boots with high socks

In this post about fall, I mentioned that one of the things I was ready for about fall was wearing boots with high socks. Here are some adorable and cozy socks to layer over your skinny jeans or tights and some amazing boots. I love that these ones are all stylish and practical with a flat heel that means you could wear them all day long.
Find some socks like these at Urban Outfitters, Patagonia, or Woolrich & boots like these at Nordstrom, Frye, Steve Madden.
Happy fall booting!

With Labor Day around the corner I thought I'd share some of my must haves for long days in the sun and sand. My weekend will be filled with sunshine, heat and girlfriends. I'll be in Las Vegas, for a bachelorette of a dear friend. What are your plans for the long weekend?
MUST HAVES:
1] sun bum zinc oxide: I have looked for years and years for a clear formula zinc oxide to use on my face, hands, lips, and scars to prevent any sun damage. I finally found this one on my early summer trip to Miami and have loved it all summer. It smells like you want sunscreen to smell, clean and tropical.
2] a BIG summer tote that I can throw everything in: water, magazines, sunscreen, my camera snacks, hats, towels...
3] shisedo ultimate skin protection cream: This one does it's job! A major sun block out that I use on areas prone to burn (my face and shoulders). While it protects all day it also doesn't make my sensitive skin breakout. I am proud to say that for the first time in a long time I didn't get one burn on my face this summer.
4] a BIG beach towel. The bigger the better with this one. It's no fun to spend your day trying to stay on your towel. A blanket size is best!
5] hats! hats! hats!: a big hat does wonders to keep my face safe from the sun. I love this panama hat that my dad brought home for me. You can find one here.
*I also like to bring along a light weight pashmina or scarf to drape over my shoulders after enough sun or over my face while I take a mid afternoon, summer nap in the sun.
the best of two worlds
I was in the Kate Spade store at Century City today and Emily and Meritt were in the store as well to launch their collaboration line, Westward for Kate Spade. It is truly AMAZING! The pieces are the best of classic leather with all the stripes and sparkles you need to make you wanna pack your bags and journey off to a far away land. Or just up the coast to visit some friends!
